DSH - German Language Knowledge
As German is the language of instruction at IHI Zittau, all foreign applicants must provide proof of language proficiency (`Sprachzeugnis`). The following exams or certificates are recognized and accepted as such proof:
IHI Zittau offers you the opportunity to take the DSH exam without any fees directly before beginning study at IHI Zittau. This exam has two parts, one oral and one written. The exam allows you to demonstrate that both your general and scientific/specialized language knowledge is sufficient for you to take up your desired course of studies.
The “Große Sprachdiplom,” the “Kleine Sprachdiplom” and the “Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung (ZOP) certificate from the Goethe-Institute
The “Deutsches Sprachdiplom” – Level 2 from the KMK (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany)
The “Deutsche Sprachprüfung II” from the Sprachen und Dolmetscher Institut (SDI) in Munich
The German exam section of the “Feststellungsprüfung” at the end of Studienkolleg
The DaF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) Test in German as Foreign Language

The German language exam for college entrance (DSH)
IHI Zittau offers you the opportunity to take the DSH exam without any fees directly before beginning study at IHI Zittau. This exam has two parts, one oral and one written. The exam allows you to demonstrate that both your general and scientific/specialized language knowledge is sufficient for you to take up your desired course of studies.
Intensive Language Courses
In order to prepare for the DSH you can take part in two intensive language courses. German knowledge at the “Grundstufe III” level (min. 500 h language instruction) is prerequisite for the winter language course in March; good “Mittelstufe” knowledge (min. 800 h language instruction) is required for the summer language course (mid-August – end of September). This required knowledge is tested in an entrance exam at the beginning of each course.

The application deadlines for the intensive language courses are:
31 January (for the winter course) and 15 July (for the summer course)
If you come from a country outside the European Union (EU), you should apply 6-8 weeks before this deadline in order to have time to get the necessary visa.
Note: Only applicants who have been accepted for study at IHI Zittau may attend these courses. Applicants to other colleges or universities may not take part. No certificates or grades are given directly after this exam.
