IHI Zittau has new, high-performance computer equipment which transmits data sets of 1GB/sec and with access to the German Scientific Network and the international nets (Internet). This provides all authorized users (students and employees) with various electronic information and communication services and options free of charge.
- personal user identification for each student (login) - electronic mail (e-mail, worldwide) - worldwide web (www.) - data transfer (FTP) - dialog access to remote computers (Telnet) - permanent storage space for programs and information (on servers) - access from all IHI computer cabinets - access to the University of Applied Sciences network over switched lines
Since 1997, in addition to two PC pools in a client-server architecture, there are 18 work stations with modern PCs and 17” colour monitors and central network printers. All computers are connected to the university network and internet, and are available for the teaching and learning of practical computer skills as well as for self-study. Computer laboratory work is integrated into the general core studies, focusing on learning how to work with office, communication and graphic software. In addition, the laboratory work should broaden the learning experience in the following specific areas:
- production planning and regulation - controlling - process management / workflow - bookkeeping - simulation of a company’s performance processes - statistics and methods - web design - databank programming
IHI students have access to the computer laboratory for study, research and preparing written assignments whenever courses are not being held there. Network administrators are available to help as needed.
Virtual lectures with interactive elements have been made possible since December 2000 by a sizeable investment in quality technical multimedia equipment.
